A Typical Day
Fiona is out at the barn before the sun is even coming up over the horizon. She fills all of the water barrels, and prepares the special diets for our elder retired horses. She gives each horse their grain, and then their flakes of alfalfa and hay.
While the horses are eating, she takes that opportunity to clean out the arena, as well as clean out the horses stalls and turnouts. Once the horses are done eating, she brings the stallions out into the arenas. We have two large arenas to keep our weanling colts separate from our Stallions, to ensure their safety. The mares are then moved out into the pastures. Around noon, during the summer, Fiona goes out and refills the water barrels with fresh, cold water. She spends the rest of the day out with the horses doing various things, such as: training for races, endurance cross-country races, practicing for halter competitions, and having pictures taken by a professional photographer. Fiona just cannot get enough pictures of her horses! Just before dusk, Fiona moves the horses back into their stalls, and prepares their dinner of grains, hay and alfalfa. The older horses get their medications mixed with their grain. The lights in the barn are turned off, and the horses are soon fast asleep for the night. |
